Mud, rain and 12 hours of fun!!

This weekend we participated in the noon till midnight Twentyfour12 mountain bike event in Plymouth. Competing in the 12 hour pairs category with fellow riders Ady and Simon, we both managed to complete 5 laps over the testing 8.5mile course. The route was challenging but rideable with a lot of uphill (according to Ady) and some great singletrack downhill sections.
Unfortunately as the day wore on the rain increased and the course got muddier and muddier. Our final lap which took us through to the midnight finish proved great fun and we finished tired, soaking wet and covered in mud but satisfied after such a good workout. There's something very odd about standing in a field at 1am in the morning with lots of other mud encrusted riders waiting for a shower!!
2 weeks today and we should be cycling through Glencoe on the way to Loch Lomond, whilst it may be as wet as this weekend it shouldn't be as muddy, fingers crossed!!

Twentyfour12 this weekend!!

This weekend we're off to Plymouth for our final event before heading off to John O'Groats in a couple of weeks. The Twentyfour12 is a mountain bike relay event around a 10 mile off road course. We're entered into the 12 hour pairs event, starting at 12 noon on Saturday and finishing at midnight.

Depending on the conditions, we should each be able to get around 5 or 6 laps completed, which will be good training for the long climbs on the JOGLE. We're camping at the course over the 2 days, so hope the weather stays fine otherwise it could be a long weekend! Jon hopes the electronic timing works correctly this week!

Winchester Pedal Paddle Pace Triathlon completed!!

We participated in a triathlon (cycle, run and kayak) around the Winchester area today in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Weather was ideal and course was great too.
Still awaiting finishers results, as there was some problem with the electronic timing system, at one stage they showed Jon as fastest finisher, which was clearly wrong!!!
Glad we're not doing any paddling on the JOGLE otherwise it could take us months!!

The fundraising for the JOGLE challenge is going well but it's not too late to donate. Jon's justgiving webpage raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care can be found at
